Worldskills UK – Robotics
WorldSkills is an annual competition held in a different member country each year that demonstrates excellence in skilled professions, most recently held in Kazan, Russia.
I would win gold in the Robotics competition at the UK Finals in 2009 and again in 2010. I would go on to represent the UK at the Euroskills competition held in Portugal in 2010 winning bronze.
As part of Team UK competing at the WorldSkills 2011 event at the Excel Centre we achieved 9th place. Working with my teammate Darren Lewis, we were faced with the challenge of programing a Robotino to complete a pre-set task autonomously within a 3 hour time limit.
I remain involved with WorldSkills to this day as the UK Technical Lead. Additionally, as part of the Middlesex University team we take student volunteers to work across a variety of stands covering areas such as robotics, mechatronics, automation, natural sciences and sports science. Students engage the public with practical activities, promoting both the competition and the University.
